Doctor Sleep: The Sequel to Stephen King’s Shining

Any Stephen King fan would instantly recognize the name, Overlook Hotel. Yes, that was the hotel where the main plot of Stephen King’s one of the best stories’ Shining takes place. The book inspired a very popular movie in the 80s, directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick and the movie was called Shining too. The protagonist, Jack Torrance, was played by the iconic Hollywood actor, Jack Nicholson.

Here’s the Summary of the Movie  –

In Shining, Jack Torrence takes up the job in the Overlook hotel as the off-season caretaker. He goes to the hotel to live with his wife, Wendy Torrance (played by Shelley Duvall) and his son Danny Torrance (played by Danny Lloyd). Danny had psychic abilities, and he could see the Overlook hotel’s terrible past.

The novel that inspired the movie was written in the year 1977 and in 2013, Stephen King wrote the sequel to it, Doctor Sleep. Doctor Sleep is now made to a movie, and the trailer dropped recently. You can watch the trailer here.

In Doctor Sleep movie, Ewan McGregor is seen playing the role of Danny Torrance, the son of Jack Torrance, and he is also seen revisiting the Overlook hotels. He is seen talking about his experience as a child and the demons of his childhood. There is a lot to reveal in the movie Doctor Sleep, and we will know the truth when the movie releases.

The trailer gave us a hint that Danny can still communicate telepathically and can see the past and future. He gets premonitions of the future horror events, and there are strange beings shown in the trailer. Who are they? Are they somehow connected to the Overlook hotel, or are they evil entities? We will get all the answers when we finally see the movie!

There were few flashbacks of the Overlook hotel and Danny as a kid. Another character is shown in the trailer, Rose the Hat (Played by Rebecca Ferguson), and we can assume that she is somehow related to the demonic events in the Overlook Hotel and she didn’t seem human!

Doctor Sleep will hit the theatres on 30th October 2019 and will be released on 8th November 2019 in Canada and the United States. Directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Gerald’s Game, and Hush), Doctor Sleep will star Ewan McGregor, Cliff Curtis, and Rebecca Ferguson.
